For only shooting on the travel day out and the last day there, I think I came out ahead. The sunsets there were amazing, however I refused to photograph them, I rather just enjoyed them.

It was 5 days of pure nothingness, intermixed with sailing and learning to scuba dive. Two things I would really like to become proficient at. I think I could scrounge the time up to care of that. Enjoy the photos.

Having only heard of light painting in passing, and never actually trying it myself, I decided to try it out tonight. Results were mixed, however I learned a good amount, and next time I should do alright. First off, ISO1600 on the 350D = grainy. I am going to have to live with ISO800 in the future and maybe switch to bulb setting for longer exposures. Second, I need a better flash light. The LED one didn’t cut it, and I despise the white light off of it. Third, try, try and try again till the exposure is right, and the light painting looks good. Fourth, the photos turn out better than the CCD display thinks. Lastly, there is nothing a little post processing cant spruce up. Enjoy my learning experience.

As promised, with the snow falling this weekend, I went on a photographing binge. It started a bit slow on Thanksgiving Day with some cooking action shots and pre-dinner table settings. Then as the snow fell friday night, things picked up as I fired off 200+ shots in the next 24 hours. Enjoy the story line.

We continued a year old tradition by frying a turkey. Deliciousness, cooked safely in the garage.

Hard to tell this would be the scene of a 6lb food massacre by myself. So beautifully set by Mom and Sam.

Thanksgiving Day festivities ended calmly, and as the snow started to fall friday night, I ventured out just as far as the porch would keep me covered. In retrospec, I should have gone out in the snow, and taken the majority of my tree shots at a different angle. That way I wouldn’t have had to scrap all the shots because of the neighbors house lights in the background. Thus, I settled on just putting up all the zoom while exposing shots. Really busied up the snow falling.

The next morning I awoke to a snow covered scenery, with no real motivation to go out and shoot it. Then it was pointed out to me that there was a pair of Bald Eagles sitting in the Audubon behind our house. I suited up, hopped the fence, and took the the telephoto lens for a stroll. I got into range where I had enough glass to get up close to the eagles and continued to shoot till they finally flew away.

On the hike back, I fired off some more shots of the winter wonderland as best I could with the telephoto. I got some good shots. I warmed this one up a bit to make it feel as though it was sunset, and not dull and freezing out.

With what I would call a recent drought in good shows, especially during the summer where it is usually red rocks, warped tour or nothing, the month of November is kicking back with a bunch of good shows coming around. Here is my wish list of shows to see, already being bummed out by Jack’s Mannequin being sold out….

11/2 Copeland@The Marquis
Nice mellow band i was introduced too, unfortuenently missed the show due to being wiped by halloween festivities

11/5 Jack’s Mannequin@The Blue Bird
Apparently this show was sold out months ago, probably has to do something with people loving the piano and the bluebird being tiny.

11/12 Steel Train with Dear and the Headlights@The Marquis
Two really cool bands. I saw Steel Train about 3 years ago on campus, this was when they were still teetering back and forth on their music style and how Drive Thru records wanted them to be. Luckily, their new album Trampoline is magnificent mix of both.

11/16 Metro Station @The Gothic
Dance band, need I saw more?

11/18 Hellogoodbye with PlayradioPlay! and Ace Enders@The Marquis
I am really looking forward to this show. I am 1 for 3 on seeing Hellogoodbye live, with them ditching out both times. The one show I did catch was one of my favorites, and its been about 3 years since their last album, so new live music would be great to hear from them. PlayRadioPlay! is always a blast, the drummer is one my favorites to watch. I am also super curious to see Ace Enders play. His new CD is pretty good, but it will be different seeing him play without the rest of The Early November, especially without Serge who in my opinion is one of the greatest bass player showmen ever.

PS. Who wants to come to LA?
12/04 DCFC, Snow Patrol, Jack’s Mannequin….then a week later
12/11 DCFC, The Killers, Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, and Jack’s Mannequin

The sun has been starting to set just a little after I get home from work, and Wednesday I noticed these leaves being hit by the almost setting sun as I got home. However, I missed the sun on them as I took too long to get set up and get down to them. Thus, an effort was made yesterday, and I got off quite a few shots before the sun tucked away. I took a couple shots of leaves in bunches, but that just was doing it, so I grabbed a leaf and held it into the sun, and tried to focus on it at while it was at arms length, while trying to use the leaf to keep the sun from blinding me. Needless to say it was difficult, and I messed up a bunch of good shots by not being in focus. Only a few remained that were actually kind of good.
As I was setting up another shot of a leaf actually on a tree, the wind blew the leaf out of frame by a good amount right as I shot. I think it could have been a pretty cool photograph. Needless to say the wind didn’t give up till the sun went down, by then all the colors I was relying on went cold.
I had to resort to leaves on asphalt, which I really enjoyed the way these came out.
Enjoy.
